Cycling Tours of Italy in 2027: Dates and Regions

Italy has some of the world’s best cycling, with every region offering something unique.

In this guide, we’ll take you through our 2027 cycling tours in Italy, including key dates, regions, highlights and who each tour is best suited for.

Whether your preference is riding along the coast, mountain climbs, or historic towns, you’ll find plenty of inspiration for your next cycling adventure. One thing that all our tours have in common is that we show you the authentic side of each region – including local food, culture and experiences that give you a taste of a real Italian lifestyle.

Sardinia - An Island Paradise

Sardinia is one of those places that surprises you every day. One moment you’re riding beside the sea in every shade of turquoise and sapphire, and the next you’re surrounded by rugged limestone mountains.

The tour travels from the island’s spectacular western coastline into the remote Barbagia and Supramonte regions. Here you’ll hear the bells of cows, goats and sheep, even before you see them, and experience Sardinia’s traditional villages covered in murals and art. We then continue on to the east coast, where the stunning mountains arrive to the sea.

Of course, no Italian cycling tour with us is complete without mentioning the food and wine. Along the way, you’ll experience Sardinia’s distinctive food culture, including slow-cooked meats on charcoal, handmade pastas such as fregula and culurgiones, local pecorino cheeses, pane carasau and regional wines.

It’s a beautiful mix of riding, culture and authentic island life.

Sicily - A Coast-to-Coast Adventure

Like Sardinia, Sicily rewards cyclists with an island adventure of beautiful coastal roads, rock strewn hilly landscapes, fascinating local culture and incredible food and wine. What makes Sicily unique is the diversity of riding and experiences packed into a single tour. Every day is distinctly different from the last, so if you like variety, this is the cycling tour for you.

There are countless beautiful villages and towns dotted across Sicily. You’ll see stunning baroque architecture, ancient Greek ruins and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. There’s also incredible nature, endless olive groves and citrus orchards you pass along the way. The cycling tour culminates with the challenge of Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano.

And then there’s the food. Local favourites include seafood dishes with sword fish, sardines and local gamberi, pasta alla Norma, arancine, cannoli, pistachio desserts, regional wines, olive oil and plenty of produce grown in the island’s fertile volcanic soils. It’s a fascinating mix of history, culture, landscapes and riding that changes dramatically from one day to the next.

Tuscany - Rolling Countryside and Renaissance History

Tuscany is about settling into the rhythm of the countryside in Italy. Days are spent riding quiet country roads through vineyards, olive groves and medieval hilltop villages. Every turn reveals the sort of incredible scenery that has made Tuscany famous around the world.

Tuscany also holds a special place in our hearts because it is actually where our cycling tour journey began! When Damian first rode L’Eroica in Tuscany in 2014, he described it as “the best day you’ll experience on a bike”. Afterwards, we began receiving enquiries from people wanting to join us on tours, which ultimately led to the creation of A’qto cycling tours of Italy.

You can read more in our blog post Why We Cycle Italy & Where It All Began.

So what makes Tuscany so great is that its sheer beauty, culture and history led us to create a whole cycling tour company.

For us, it’s the combination of scenery, world-class riding, local food and wine, and a way of life that encourages you to slow down and savour every moment – in true Tuscan style.

Piemonte - An Epicurean Paradise

We like to describe Piemonte as a cyclist’s playground in an epicurean paradise. If you’re a cyclist and a foodie, this is the place for you.

On this tour, you’ll explore the UNESCO-listed Langhe wine region, riding through Barolo, Barbaresco, La Morra and Neive. You’ll pass ancient castles, hazelnut groves, vineyards and hilltop villages connected by quiet roads that seem made for cycling. The finale is the ascent of Colle Fauniera, home of the legendary La Fausto Coppi Gran Fondo, and one of Italy’s greatest cycling climbs.

Of course, the food is incredible across all of our tour destinations, but Piemonte in particular is famous for its world-class wine and cuisine. The focus is on high-quality produce and very traditional methods of preparation, in the home of slow food. Some of the most famous include local dishes such as vitello tonnato and ravioli del plin, its prestigious red wines (Barolo and Barbaresco), rare white truffles from Alba, and rich chocolate and hazelnut confections.
