Day 3: San Felice; 56km & 930m – Today, you will take to part of the route of L’Eroica and climb up to Castello di Brolio, set amidst olive groves and vineyards, before the challenge of one good long climb on the Strade Bianche.

A FOOD, WINE & HOSPITALITY JOURNEY LIKE NO OTHER

A villa style apartment within walking distance to Gaiole’s piazza – rated No.1 in Gaiole, there is no better place to be than at the family run B&B we have selected for your 7 night stay. You’ll be right amongst the action of the L’Eroica Festival, while also feeling relaxed and away from it all as the Villa grounds, infinity pool and views take in the spectacular Tuscan countryside

Arriving to Gaiole in Chianti, the home of L’Eroica, 6 days before the ride – you’ll have plenty of time to acclimatise, prepare the legs and soak up the atmosphere as the momentum builds in the days leading up to the event – you’ll be right amongst the action as the 4 day L’Eroica Festival starts to roll in to town from Thursday, featuring the best ‘antique/vintage’ cycling market you’ll ever see and a carnival atmosphere with cyclists arriving from all over the world – the lead up days are not to be missed!

Daily buffet breakfast – a daily, home made Italian feast with magnificent local produce will keep you going for hours on or off the bike.

Welcome lunch – as we depart from Florence and your flight or train travel starts to feel like a distant memory, we’ll have you relaxing in the Chianti countryside in no time, enjoying a light, truly Tuscan welcome lunch in our garden.

Welcome dinner – we’ll be celebrating the start of our week in authentic Chianti style at one of Gaiole’s most highly respected restaurants. Situated in a historic building with spectacular views, this will see us launch our week in style.

Traditional, home cooked Tuscan dinners – home cooked meals in Tuscany using the most wonderful Autumn seasonal produce and traditional cooking methods is a ‘must do’, so we’ll be enjoying the best of this region with our hosts and guest chefs, whose hospitality is second to none.

A never to be forgotten Tuscan lunch at one of Chianti’s premier restaurants – this is our personal ‘off the bike’ highlight for the week – a long Italian lunch where the hours pass slowly and time has no meaning – our hosts at this restaurant will delight with their incredible food, wine and hospitality, as we sit back and enjoy the spectacular Tuscan countryside.

A winery tour of a superb Tuscan Estate – with the most incredible array of Chianti Classico wines, Super Tuscans, Vin Santo and more on offer at our selected winery, this tour will delight not only from the unique wine tasting experience you’ll enjoy, but with the historic buildings and serene setting.

A well deserved Finale Dinner on Sunday evening post your L’Eroica ride – after a few celebratory beers in the piazza, soaking up the atmosphere with all the ‘L’Eroiche’ (‘the heroes’ in Italian) who like us, come to enjoy this great festival of riding, food and friendship, we’ll enjoy a relaxed dinner as a group.

Warm, engaging Italian hospitality – your hosts, Damian Hancock and Nancy De Losa will lead you through the week, sharing their warm, open entertaining style.  Combining Damian’s experience in leading group rides with their huge passion for Italian food and culture, means you’ll feel right at home in every town we visit. Nancy’s Italian heritage and fluency in speaking the language makes for a smooth experience with the locals each day. You’ll relish the experience that comes from their meticulous planning and attention to detail in all areas on and off the bike.

Generous free time to explore all that the magnificent Chianti region has to offer – we believe a big part of the enjoyment of L’Eroica is being able to spontaneously duck into town to enjoy a glass of wine and cheese in the piazza as the atmosphere builds each day, or wander off into the Chianti countryside and explore places on foot or bike that take you on your own little exploration, or take a day trip to a surrounding town such as Siena, San Gimignano or Arrezzo. Whatever it is that you would like to do, there will be free time set aside for you to enjoy your own slice of heaven.
